About Us

Southern Caravans was established in 1992 when Barry Phillimore made the decision to work for himself in Spitalfield Lane, Chichester.
The building here only held 1 Caravan , which meant any other work had to be carried out in the shared yard.
In 1995 Barry made the decision to move the company to Lockgate Road, Sidlesham. The premises here consisted of a large workshop, which could hold up to 8 caravans, a shop area and a caravan sales area.
In 1999 Southern Caravans saw an expansion into repairs on static caravans with both interior and exterior work being undertaken.
We became a named service Center for companies such as Wandahome, Coachman and the Explorer Group.
In March 2000 when the lease expired in Sidlesham, an opportunity arose to take on premises at Aldingbourne - to the East of Chichester. The site was shared with a Motorhome company and it was hoped that this association would have benefits to both companies. It did!!
Both Companies did so well that space was beginning to limit the number of outfits that could be safely maneuvered about the yard.
When a workshop became available in Sidlesham, just North of the original Lockgate Road site, it was decided to take it as it allows us room to display sale vans as well as caravans that are in for repairs and servicing. We have been able to build up our range of accessories in the shop as well as our stock of spares and parts needed for general repairs. The stores expansion will generally speed up repair work as we will not always need to wait for a part to arrive.
In 2004 we become an Approved Workshop, took on new staff and also become the South Dealer for Geist Caravans.
Southern Caravans continues to sell Geist caravans in 2006 and also recently became a dealer for Lunar Chateau Caravans.

Southern Caravans is very much a family concern. Barry still owns the business, Pat, his wife, works in the office, their son Darren works full-time as Workshop Manager and daughter Kelly is the IT Technician. Full time fitters, who maintain and improve their skills by attending training courses, back the Phillimore family.
